The port includes a number of well-executed features, such as: However, this newer release includes a GUI that is not dissimilar to that of the GUI that you'll find on Basilisk II for the PSP, making it fairly simple to set up and get started with given you have the correct files.įor those of you who were previously unaware, Basilisk II is a 68k Macintosh emulator that's available on a variety of platforms and systems such as the PSP, Windows, Linux, macOS and even AmigaOS computers! Basilisk II runs Mac OS 7.0 – 8.1 on the emulated equivalent of a 68000-series machine, as Basilisk II achieves its function through emulation of a Macintosh II or Quadra 900 system with a Motorola 60 processor. This port seems to be extremely versatile and capable of achieving a great playing experience for those who want to indulge their nostalgia and take a nosedive into 90's games such as SimEarth. The other games didn't work.Blackthorne hangs up while loading and the other games crash to DOS Prince of Persia 1 - Runs full speed and with sound It runs pretty well in general, but it was kind of a pain to set up.Įxecutor (not exactly an emulator but I had to try it): Marathon - Runs surprisingly well, but mouse twitches a lot (may be the KVM switch I use) Warcraft - Couldn't try since I was too lazy to make CD-ROM work Prince of Persia 2 - Runs full speed, but music is slow Prince of Persia 1 - Runs full speed with music and sound Full instructions are available here and you can download Basilisk II for your Vita from the link below.I tried some emulators myself, here are the results:ĭo note that you will need a classic Macintosh ROM file and a hard drive image containing a bootable version of Mac OS 7.0 – 8.1 in order to run this. Tried running on an retro computer with MS-DOS, it's the easiest one to setup since you don't need any Mac OS installation and ROM. This is an old emulator from around 2000, and it also runs in pure DOS. I used Dosbox to install the OS and copy the games, then copied the image to my retro machine. Warcraft - Runs full speed, but CD audio is not working Blackthorne - Does not work, same error 14 I get from Basilisk II Prince of Persia 2- Runs full speed and almost with functional music (it's a bit slow at some points, but still a little better than on Basilisk II) Basilisk ii 68k mac emulator install# Marathon - Runs fine, mouse also works better still sucks Basilisk ii 68k mac emulator full# Since DOS is a single task OS, it feels much more like I'm using a "real" Mac OS So far this is my favorite 68K mac emulator simply because I can run it under pure DOS.
